Banyule Support & Information Centre (BANSIC) is staffed by trained volunteers. Volunteering is an enriching experience and the volunteers make a vital contribution to the community. The volunteers provide information to clients so they are able to make an informed decision and are enabled to achieve their goals and obtain services.
Do you have a morning or afternoon available each week and want to be involved in the local community? Then why not become a volunteer at BANSIC and join our friendly and committed team. Volunteer duties include interviewing people who have enquiries, making referrals as needed, giving practical help e.g. filling in forms or writing letters etc. All prospective volunteers are offered training through Community Information Victoria.
A Basic Information Day has been designed to provide enough information about working in a Community Information Centre, to enable the participant to make an informed decision about whether to continue in the training programme. This is then followed by the TAFE accredited course : COURSE IN COMMUNITY INFORMATION WORK. At present the course is run over 72 hours, usually one day per week for 12 weeks. During the course the volunteer will spend some time at BANSIC learning how the centre operates and to complete the course assignments.
